On Tuesday 8th September 2015, David Bondi (President) and Robert Lovick from Haven Rotary Club in Great Yarmouth presented all Year 3 children at Herman with their own, personal edition of the Usbourne Illustrated Dictionary.
The presentation was made as part of a Rotary project to support the education of children in the east of England. A special whole academy assembly was held and the children in Year 3 individually presented with their dictionary by Mr. Bondi.
Vice Principal, Mark Thompson, during the assembly said, “Its is fitting that these dictionaries are presented to Year 3 on International Literacy Day as they start on their journey into Keystage 2. The National Curriculum states clearly that all 8 year old children must be able to use a dictionary effectively.
Mr. Vince Martinez, Pathfinders class teacher, acknowledged that, “these dictionaries will have pride of place on the children’s desks, alongside their pencil, ruler and exercise books.”
Herman Academy looks forward to working hand in glove with Rotary to use our relationship to take part in a research project to study the impact of these dictionaries on children’s learning.
