Today, pupils from Year 2 celebrated VE day to mark the end of their topic work about WW2. The children have loved learning about life as an evacuee in the war, with a particular highlight of this being their visit to Sheringham in order to experience an evacuation! As well as this, in the classroom they have made paper spitfires, anderson shelters and blitz silhouette pictures. In literacy, they have written poems about the countryside, letters home from their wartime houses and riddles about objects from the war. WW2 has also influenced their maths work for example learning about rationing through fractions and division. This morning the children put the finishing touches to their excellent catalogue of work by making bunting, sandwiches and sugarless cakes in order to ensure the guests of the VE day party had a true celebration. A huge thank you to all the parents who were able to attend!
