On Thursday afternoon Miss Sinclair, Miss Smith and Mrs Simmons’ enrichment group baked sausage rolls during their cookery lesson. Before they handled any ingredients, the pupils were taught about hygiene, so all pupils washed their hands and cleaned the preparation area, in this instance; their tables. First they cut off the sausage skin, followed by stretching out their pastry. Herbs, salt and garlic were added to the meat to add flavour, before rolling it out to create a sausage shape. The meat was then put onto the pastry, which edges were rolled, in order to cover the sausage. Finally milk was brushed over the sausage rolls, to help with browning during the cooking process. After 25 minutes in the oven, the sausage rolls were ready for home time -delicious !
Ethan from Pathfinders said: “I’ve never made sausage rolls before, I really enjoyed rolling the sausage meat and getting messy hands!”
Chloe, also from Pathfinders said: “I really liked adding my own garlic and herbs and making the sausage rolls just how I like them.”
