Year 3/4 have been learning about the 1960’s as part of their topic work this term, with fashion being the focus of this unit.Pupils browsed images and liked the designs they saw, so teaching staff decided they would use these the following week to teach the children about resist methods, including tie- dye and batik. The children explored how to make different patterns by tying elastic bands onto their t-shirts. Pupils were all provided with a t-shirt and enjoyed being able to choose the pattern they wanted in order to create their design.
“It was really fun!” exclaimed Lilly from Year 4.
“Our t-shirts were very colourful” added Demi , another Year 4 pupil.
“The tie dye t-shirts looked amazing! It was the most exciting thing I have ever done.” quoted Michelle, a pupil from Year 3.
“I had never done tie dye before but knew it was something the children would really enjoy. We decided to provide each child with a t-shirt so they all had something to take home with them. It was an enjoyable experience for all the children and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again! The adults enjoyed it as much as the children!” – Miss S. King (Year 3 teacher).
