The whole of Ormiston Herman Academy marked Armistice Day with an assembly held at 11 o’clock.
Principal, Mrs. Rutherford, led the assembly which invited children to reflect on the sacrifices of others in helping to keep our country safe and secure, both in past times and the modern age.
Following the silence, Mrs. Rutherford read from the poem ‘For the Fallen’ by Robert Laurence Binyon:
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
The children all repeated the closing line of the verse as part of a very moving moment.
The assembly was dismissed following the singing of the National Anthem and recital of the Lord’s Prayer.
