Children are safe, happy and progressing well at Herman!

Posted on: October 14, 2015

It is not at all uncommon in the world of business for companies to seek feedback from the customers that they serve. At Herman Academy we value the opinions of  parents to  help us make the experiences of our pupils even better.

It was Albert Einstein who said that “Only a life lived in the service to others is worth living” and our philosophy is similar in the way we view teaching and learning at Herman – only the best we can give will ever be good enough for the children who walk through our doors every day.

To help us know how our parents view us we asked them to give an opinion against 5 statements at the latest parents evening:

1. My child is happy and feels safe whilst at Herman.

2. Herman Academy deals effectively with bullying.

3. My child is well taught and is making good progress at Herman Academy.

4. My child receives appropriate home learning for their age.

5. I would recommend Herman to another parent.

From the results of those surveyed (48.7% of total parents) over 85% said that their children were happy and safe at Herman Academy. Whilst the figure reflects the very high standards of care that we give all children we are, with the Academy Council, looking at how we can make sure that all children feel safe during the day.

Less than 6% of parents felt that Herman Academy does not deal effectively with bullying. We work hard to address all issues that children may have, both in and out of the academy, and will continue to do so.

It was not surprising that the overwhelming majority considered their child to be well-taught and making good progress given the commitment from our teachers. One parent commented that  “I am extremely impressed with the progress and attitude towards learning, this is such a welcome difference from previous schools that [my children] have been to.” Alongside these responses, home learning was equally well received by parents.

Of the parents who responded to the survey, 92.5% said that they would recommend Herman academy to a friend as a place to send their children.

Kate Rutherford, Principal, said “It is humbling that parents are proud of the academy that their children attend. Everything we do at Herman is centered around the child and we work tirelessly every day to make sure that what we do we do right.”
