Ormiston Herman Academy is pleased to be taking part in ‘The Golden Mile’ run by Premier Sport.
What is ‘The Golden Mile’?
The Golden Mile is a safe, simple and measurable health and physical activity initiative accessible to all pupils regardless of age or ability.Celebrities backing the initiative include olympic champions Dame Kelly Holmes and gold medallist Duncan Goodhew MBE. Children will have the opportunity to run, walk or jog round the track mapped out on the academy field, increasing their level of fitness over the whole year.
Laps completed by the pupils will be recorded by a group of our senior year students, who have received the appropriate sports leader training. The Golden Mile is all about rewarding personal achievement and encouraging pupils to partake in daily physical activity.Laps completed will be converted into miles, which will be displayed on wall charts, to show the progress made by the children.Certificates will be awarded to celebrate the pupil’s successes, and to keep them motivated, as they compete to achieve ‘The Golden Mile’
We also endorse and back the Governments statement on competition in schools. Healthy competition focuses on doing your best, having fun, learning skills, promoting teamwork and positive participation. Can every Pupil at our academy achieve 50 Golden Miles in a year?
