Nursery’s Journey to find the Flum Flum Tree

Posted on: February 13, 2015

This week Nursery held a Story Cafe based on the well-loved children’s book ‘Jack and the Flum Flum Tree’

It is about a boy called Jack, whose Granny is sick with a bad case of the moozles! The only cure is the fruit of the fantastic Flum Flum tree, which grows on the faraway Isle of Blowyernose. It’s a perilous journey, but Jack bravely sets sail, with a motley crew of only three  and a large patchwork sack that Granny has filled with an odd assortment of items, from chewing-gum to tent pegs. But what use will they be against hungry sharks, a leaky boat and a thieving monkey?

Mrs Friel, nursery teacher said, “It was pleasing to see so many parents come and join us for a story and take part in some activities based on the book. Activities included making a boat to sail to the Isle of Blowyernose, making a flum flum tree, paper plate granny faces and tasting exotic fruit to decide what a Flum Flum would taste like. This links to the Julia Donaldson theme and learning about what an author does.”
